Balancing the bottom line with an environmental conscience.
Q1 - Is the light level same?
The short answer is yes; the illumination is the same but the pattern is slightly different.
A fluorescent tube can often waste a lot of light because it's emitted over 360° meaning that
half of the light is directed away from where you want it. Generally, fluorescent lights are
used in a recessed fixture that reflects some this light.
The light pattern of an LED is slightly different because it's directed where you want it in a
narrower beam (e.g. 110°).
Q2 - Is the light “warmth” same?
Yes the LEDlights are available in a variety of colours “temperatures” ranging from
cool daylight to warm white.
Q3 - How do I know the savings are real?
The calculation is a very simple one based on the wattage of the lamps and hours of use; we estimate
typical consumption of fluorescents because of the variation in ballast usage but could get a more
accurate estimate by taking a ballast and tube from your site for further testing.
However we believe the difference is marginal and that we're estimating on the conservative side.
Q4 - How do I know they'll last?
LED technology has evolved quite rapidly with newer LEDs stating life spans of up to 100,000 hours;
but that's more than 27 years of constant operation under 10 hours a day, 7 days a week; and these
LEDs simply haven't been around that long to vouch for the accuracy of that claim.
So GTS tests LEDs under accelerated aging conditions (in an oven at 50°C) to determine the decay
profile of the LEDs and projected useful life. We're confident in our quite conservative estimation
that our LEDlights will last for 35,000 hours without significant reduction in light output.
Q5 - What's involved in the retrofit?
The great thing about LEDlight tubes is that they leverage your existing fixtures with minimal
retrofitting.
In the simplest scenario the fluorescent starter is removed; that's all there is to it.
However we recommend taking the further step of bypassing the starter and ballast so that there's never
any risk that the wrong tube can be inserted and damage your fixture and the wasted energy passing through
the ballast is recovered.

Q6 - How does the upgrade work?
First we measure your current light levels at various points around your workplace; then we install
GTS LEDlights and make sure the light levels are OK. For example if our standard tube is not adequate
we change the beam angle etc until we've got the right solution.
Part of the process is the retrofit of your fixtures but note that none are permanently changed and all
proposed changes would be approved by the customer.
After the installation we monitor the lights roughly every 3000 hours of operation to ensure they're
performing as expected. If there are any faults they're corrected either under warranty or under our
service agreement.
Q7 - What's covered under warranty?
Basically we guarantee that the light levels will not fall below 80% of the installed levels; this means
we replace any lamps that fail or are not performing during the 3 years of our warranty period of the
duration of the service contract.
Q8 - Won't technology or price change over time?
Yes there will of course be changes; we're always looking to improve our product and create more
efficient lamps. But keep in mind that the changes are incremental and by the time something is developed
that is significantly more efficient; you could have already made many thousands of dollars in savings.
