Posted date 10 July 2009

Green Technology Solutions conducted a trial of our LEDlights tube at IGA supermarket in Elizabeth East. Based on the typical wattage of the lamps used at Elizabeth East store and the estimated daily operational hours; the total weekly energy consumption for lighting came to 1,724kW. Based on this figure, the annually the energy consumption is estimated at 88,698kW. At a nominal 1.2kg of CO2 per kWh; this equates to around 106.4 tonnes of carbon emissions a year.

If the majority of the current lamps were replaced with Green Technology Solutions’ LED technology; lighting energy consumption would be reduced overall by around 66.7% to 29,566kW and carbon emissions would be reduced by 71.0 tonnes to 35.5 tonnes.

Assuming an average energy cost of $0.18 per kWh; the total energy reduction would be a cost saving of around $10,644 per year.
